Romania Devotions Day 39

Romania Devotional- Day 39

John 3:14-21

Key Verse:

John 3:16

“For God so loved the world he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

John used these famous 25 words to illustrate a beautiful summary of not only this chapter, not only this book, but of the entire New Testament. It is the whole gospel wrapped up in one divinely written statement, packaged neatly, and easily digestible. John 3:16 is one of the most popular, most often memorized and quoted, verses of the whole Bible and that’s because there is so much of God’s power packed into this one sentence.

  • It states the depth and length of God’s love for His followers.
  • It shows the sacrifice that God made in order to restore His relationships with His people.
  • It references that ways of God are an open invitation to all people.
  • It demonstrates God’s never ending grace.
  • It highlights the rewards for living a Christian life and promises Heaven to all Jesus’ followers.

We choose to go back to Chapter 3, to these verses in particular, because it serves as such a good summary of the whole book of John. We intentionally didn’t choose John 3:16 as a featured verse in the first week of devotions because we thought it would be obvious we choose it because of its popularity. After circling back through the entire book we felt it summarized everything we spent the last 38 days talking about. It was something we felt we need needed to address.

We also thought it would be a disservice to walk through the entire book of John together and not give an opportunity for people to become followers of Jesus Christ.  Faith in Jesus is a choice. People respond to God’s calling in all kinds of ways; God calls His children back to him through all types of means, circumstance and teachings. It could be an emotional response, a pull at the heart or a overwhelming feeling of spiritual acceptance. It could look nothing like any example ever listed anywhere and it could be so personal that no one else could ever describe it.

If you, the reader of these Book of John devotions, have been moved in a way to take a step toward Jesus, then we encourage you to do it. Maybe you have only read today’s post. Maybe you just stumbled across this passage online. Maybe your wife or your mom is making you read it. Maybe you are unsure of where your eternal home is going to be. If you’re ready for new life walking hand in hand with God forever, then raise your hand right now and say this prayer out loud.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for calling me into your family and I accept your invitation to be a part of it. Father, I know that you sent your one and only Son, Jesus Christ, to live a sinless life, and to suffer and die for my sins. He paid the price for me. Today, I choose to give my heart to You. I choose to follow Jesus all the days of my life. I confess with my mouth that He is my Lord and Savior. Today Lord God, I ask that you have my life, to direct me as you will, and I ask for the wisdom and strength to follow Your guidance. In the mighty and matchless name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

If you have taken this bold step faith for the first time, we congratulate you! This is an amazing day for you. Mark it down on your calendar so you can celebrate this date every year it comes around. The angels in Heaven are throwing a party right now just for you. Our prayers are with you as you start this journey and we encourage you not to keep this moment to yourself. Get involved at your local church, get in community with other believers, and continue reading the Bible every day. A famous Pastor named Andy Stanley says “Following Jesus doesn’t just make our life better; it makes us better at life!” Let’s live it out, let’s walk one on one with God daily, and let’s put the time and effort into developing a personal intimate relationship with our Creator.
